Marg Helgenberger to leave CSI
Story by Lizzie Guilfoyle
ACCORDING to reports in the national press, Marg Helgenberger will leave CSI: Crime Scene Investigation at the end of the show’s 11th season, which is due for screening in the UK next year.
Helgenberger has played CSI Catherine Willows since CSI began in the year 2000 but has decided to quit the show as she now has a new man in her life. Last year, she divorced her husband of 20 years, Alan Rosenberg.
In a case of art imitating life, Catherine is set to fall in love with Detective Vartann (Alex Carter) before heading off into the proverbial sunset.
Speaking about her decision to leave the show, Helgenberger said: “I’m leaving on the best of terms. It will be a wrench but it’s time to move on.”
In 1996, Helgenberger appeared in five episodes of ER – as Doug Ross’ girlfriend Karen Hines. Ross was, of couse, played by George Clooney.
CSI has already lost two of its original stars – William Petersen (the enigmatic Gil Grissom) mid-way through Season 9, and Gary Dourdan (the troubled Warrick Brown) in the Season 9 premiere. Jorja Fox (Sara Sidle) also left the show as a regular cast member but continues to make frequent guest appearances.
