CELEBRATING 50 years since the happy union of Richard Briers and Prunella Scales in Marriage Lines, this lost gem of a British sitcom finally makes its DVD debut on February 4, 2013 thanks to Acorn Media.
Written by Richard Waring (Rings on Their Fingers), this groundbreaking marital comedy originally screened on the BBC in 1963 and is notable for the sparkling comedic brilliance of its rising young stars, Richard Briers and Prunella Scales.
This collection brings together the complete series one and complete series three but sadly series two is irreplaceably lost. Marriage Lines comes to DVD as a three-disc set on February 4, 2013.
Newly-weds George and Kate Starling arrive home from their honeymoon to discover that they’ve lost their door keys. How they come to meet their new neighbours and events that follow, set the tone for a series that lovingly explores the perils and pitfalls of love, marriage, anniversaries, petty quarrels and the kind of making-up that’s not so hard to do.
Series three finds the couple facing up to the realities of becoming parents – something which Kate takes to with grace and assurance, while George will keep stubbing his toe on the crib in more ways than one.
For this 50th Anniversary edition, Acorn Media has filmed a delightful and unique interview, reuniting the original happy couple as they reflect on this launch to their careers and the friendship that followed, which makes for a very special feature on the DVD release.
It seems like only yesterday Richard Briers and Prunella Scales were saying their Marriage Lines. Now it’s your chance to watch them launch careers that would lead them on to comedy gold such as The Good Life, Fawlty Towers and so much more, making them the national treasures they are to this day.
Special features include: Richard Briers and Prunella Scales: The Starlings Reunited interview, Cast Filmographies, Picture Gallery and Subtitles.
