Modern Family and Downton Abbey among SAG TV nominations (2012)
Story by Jack Foley
COMEDY ensemble Modern Family has landed four nominations in this year’s Screen Actors Guild Awards.
The perennial Emmy winner landed nods for Ty Burrell and Eric Stonestreet for best comedy actor and Sofia Vergara for best comedy actress while show was put up for best ensemble.
NBC’s 30 Rock also landed multiple nominations in its final year, with leads Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin scoring acting nominations and the show itself in the running for an ensemble prize.
Also on the comedy front, nerd hit The Big Bang Theory scored best actor (Jim Parsons) and ensemble nods.
In dramatic categories, ITV favourite Downton Abbey attracted nominations for Michelle Dockery and Dame Maggie Smith in the best actress category, and for the ensemble cast.
Smith, meanwhile, landed a personal haul of four nominations when taking into account best actress and best ensemble award nominations for Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.
The best dramatic actor features a typically strong line-up, including Britain’s Damian Lewis for Homeland, Steve Buscemi for Boardwalk Empire, Bryan Cranston for Breaking Bad, Jon Hamm for Mad Men and Jeff Daniels for The Newsroom.
In the running for best actress alongside the Downton nominees, meanwhile, is Claire Danes for Homeland, Jessica Lange for American Horror Story: Asylum and Julianna Margulies for The Good Wife.
