HIT series Mr Robot has been renewed for a third season at USA Network.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the new season will premiere in 2017 – although the number of episodes is still unknown.

Mr Robot‘s second season was upped from 10 to 12 episodes in June owing to its popularity and awards buzz.

The series has also won two Golden Globe awards, including best drama, three Critics’ Choice TV awards, including best drama, a Television Critics’ Association award for best new series and a Writers’ Guild of America award for best new series.

Commenting on the renewal, NBC Universal Cable Entertainment Networks president Chris McCumber said: “We couldn’t be more proud of Mr Robot, a series that has pushed boundaries, captured the cultural zeitgeist, and been honoured as one of the best dramas on television.

“Midway through its second season, Mr Robot continues to break new ground and open up new opportunities for the network. We can’t wait to see where Sam Esmail and the entire brilliant Robot team take us next.”

Mr Robot is available on Amazon Prime in the UK, as well as on the Universal Channel.
