Mr Selfridge

POPULAR ITV period drama Mr Selfridge is to return for a third series, the broadcaster has confirmed.

The show, inspired by the real-life retail entrepreneur, stars US actor Jeremy Piven in the title role. It will begin filming next month.

According to producers, Mr Selfridge’s colourful life will “really begin to unravel” as the third series unfolds with “some surprises in store” for the audience.

“You only have to walk down Oxford Street today to know that Selfridges department store continued to be successful, but for its founder, Harry Selfridge, things were very different,” said ITV executive producer Kate Lewis.

“His story was a rollercoaster ride that ended rather tragically. We pick up series three in 1919, the point at which his life really begins to unravel.”

The second series, which is currently on air on Sunday nights at 9pm, has attracted an average 6.4 million viewers.

Kate Brooke will return to write the 10 episodes of the new series, which also stars former Coronation Street actress Katherine Kelly as socialite Lady Mae.

Piven is currently reprising another of his popular TV characters, foul-mouthed talent agent Ari Gold, in the big screen version of Entourage.
