MYANNA Buring and Matthew Goode are to star in new ITV drama The Poison Tree.

Based on the novel by Erin Kelly, the two-part drama will follow a haunted woman named Karen Clarke (Buring) who goes to extraordinary lengths to protect her family.

After encountering the glamorous Biba (Ophelia Lovibond) and her handsome brother Rex (Goode), Karen is drawn into their “tragic family history” but the “long summer of love” that ensues quickly turns into a “nightmare”.

Emilia di Girolamo (of Law & Order: UK fame) has written the series.

Commenting on the appeal of the show, ITV’s Steve November said: “We are delighted to be working with STV and Emilia di Girolamo on this intriguing and emotional thriller. Erin Kelly’s novel is rich and absorbing and is perfectly suited to ITV.”

The Poison Tree is due to go into production over the summer and will air on ITV1 later this year.

Buring will shortly be seen in the final Twilight movie Breaking Dawn – Part 2 and has also landed a role in the Christmas special of Downton Abbey.

She has also been seen in the movies Lesbian Vampire Killers and Kill List.

Goode was most recently seen on the small screen in the BBC’s acclaimed adaptation of Birdsong and has just completed filming Stoker. Other notable film roles have included The Lookout and A Single Man as well as Watchmen.
