National Treasure: Book of Secrets

A TV series based on the National Treasure films is in the works at Disney+.

Super-producer Jerry Bruckheimer has confirmed he is putting together a series based on the films but with an entirely new cast attached.

In an interview with Collider, he said: ““We’re certainly working on one [National Treasure] for streaming and we’re working on one for the big screen. Hopefully, they’ll both come together and we’ll bring you another National Treasure, but they’re both very active.

“The one for Disney+ is a much younger cast. It’s the same concept but a young cast. The one for theatrical would be the same cast.”

Nicolas Cage starred in the film versions of National Treasure, playing a modern fortune hunter named Benjamin Gates.

Bruckheimer produced both the 2004 original and its 2007 follow-up, National Treasure: Book of Secrets, both of which were box office hits.

The first film grossed more than $347 million worldwide, with the sequel collecting nearly $460 million.

According to Bruckheimer, the scripts for the TV series have already been completed.
