New Girl renewed for seventh and final season

New Girl: Season 2

Story by Jack Foley

ZOOEY Deschanel-led comedy New Girl has been renewed for a seventh and final season by Fox.

The news comes amid uncertainty surrounding the show’s future given that season six ended on an ambiguous note. Speculation was rife that it had served as an impromptu final episode. Series creator Liz Meriwether has also been vocal about starting a new chapter.

But while the show has never set ratings in the US alight, it did finish the 2016-17 season as Fox’s highest-rated returning half-hour show.

Hence, Fox will allow Meriweather and company the chance to bring the lives of its principal characters to a suitable close.

As yet, it is not known how many episodes the final season will consist of.

The show, which screens on E4 in the UK, also stars Jake Johnson.
