Nick Nolte joins US Broadchurch remake

Story by Jack Foley

VETERAN actor Nick Nolte has joined the cast of America’s remake of ITV hit Broadchurch.

The actor will play Jack Reinhold, a stubborn, unmarried man who has lived in Gracepoint for 20 years and who runs the kayak rental shop on the beach as well as a local wildlife observation scheme, where the murder victim, a teenage boy, was one of his volunteers.

Like its English inspiration, Gracepoint – as it is being called in the US – follows the investigation into the tragic and mysterious death of a young boy in the sleepy seaside town of Gracepoint.

David Tennant is reprising his role as the lead detective in the series, while Breaking Bad‘s Anna Gunn, Jacki Weaver and Michael Pena are also among the ensemble cast.

Billed as a 10-part event series, Gracepoint is scheduled to begin filming in January 2014 and will air during the 2014-15 season.

The original series’ creator, Chris Chibnall (Doctor Who), will executive produce the series as well as write the premiere episode. He is also involved in the UK show’s forthcoming sophomore season.

Nolte, whose film credits include The Prince of Tides, Warrior and The Thin Red Line, has previously starred in the short-lived TV series Luck for HBO.

His forthcoming film projects include Return to Sender, directed by Fouad Mikati, and an adaptation of A Walk in the Woods, which sees him starring alongside Robert Redford.
