Olive Kitteridge - DVD Preview

Olive Kitteridge

Preview by Jack Foley

BASED on Elizabeth Strout’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name and directed by Academy Award® nominated Lisa Cholodenko (The Kids Are All Right, Laurel Canyons), the critically acclaimed four-part HBO mini-series, Olive Kitteridge, is available to own on Blu-ray, DVD and digital download on February 9, 2015, courtesy of HBO Home Entertainment.

Nominated for three Golden Globe® Awards and two Screen Actors Guild Awards, this latest offering from HBO stars Academy Award® and SAG Award® winning Frances McDormand (Fargo, North Country) and Academy Award® nominee Richard Jenkins (The Visitor, Six Feet Under).

Following its premiere at the Venice Film Festival and broadcast on Sky Atlantic, Olive Kitteridge tells the poignantly sweet, acerbically funny and devastatingly tragic story of a seemingly placid New England town wrought with illicit affairs, crime and tragedy.

The story unfolds through the lens of Olive (McDormand), whose wicked wit and harsh demeanor mask a warm but troubled heart.

The story, which spans 25 years, focuses on her relationships with her husband, Henry (Jenkins), the good-hearted and kindly town pharmacist and their son, Christopher (John Gallagher Jr; The Newsroom), who resents his mother’s approach to parenting; and other members of their community.

The supporting cast features Golden Globe® winner Bill Murray (Lost in Translation) as Jack Kennison, a widower befriended by Olive; Emmy® nominee Peter Mullan (Top of the Lake) as Jim O’Casey, a fellow teacher at Olive’s school; Rosemarie DeWitt (Mad Men) as Rachel Coulson, a schizophrenic who is one of Henry’s customers at the pharmacy, Zoe Kazan (Ruby Sparks) as Denise Thibodeau, Henry’s wide eyed assistant and Martha Wainwright (legendary folk singer) as the piano bar entertainer Angela O’Meara.

Executive produced by Academy Award® winning Tom Hanks, Gary Goetzman, Frances McDormand and Jane Anderson and co-executive produced by Steven Shareshian, Olive Kitteridge is an exquisite, poignant and humorous journey through one woman’s small town world.
