Peaky Blinders to return in 2019

HIT BBC 2 crime drama Peaky Blinders will return for a fifth series in 2019, its creators have announced.

The news was confirmed via the show’s Twitter account just after the finale of its fourth series finished airing.

Series creator Steven Knight had pretty much confirmed before that Peaky Blinders would get a fifth season. But the revelation that fans will have to wait a little under two years may have been something of a disappointment.

He anticipates shooting will start next autumn with a view to the show airing on BBC 2 in Spring 2019.

Cillian Murphy will once more reprise his role as Tommy Shelby, with other members of the surviving Shelby family due to return too.

However, there will be no place for Tom Hardy’s favourite Alfie Solomons, who was among the high-profile casualties of the bloody fourth season finale.

It remains to be seen whether the fifth season will mark the show’s last. Knight has hinted that it might be; although co-star Paul Anderson, aka Arthur Shelby, has suggested otherwise, believing that there’s still too much story to wrap up in just six episodes.
