REBECCA Breeds is to play FBI agent Clarice Starling in CBS’ sequel to The Silence of the Lambs.

Clarice will be set one year after the events of Lambs and is based on a script by Star Trek franchise supremo Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet.

Taking place in 1993, the drama will explore the untold personal story of agent Starling (memorably played by Jodie Foster in Silence of the Lambs) as she returns to the field to pursue serial murderers and sexual predators while navigating the high-stakes political world of Washington, DC.

Clarice is described as brilliant and vulnerable. But her bravery gives her an inner light that draws monsters and madmen to her, while her complex psychological make-up comes from a challenging childhood and her drive comes from her need to escape the burden of family secrets that have haunted her throughout her life.

Speaking in January, Kurtzman and Lumet said Starling’s “is the very story we need today: her struggle, her resilience, her victory”.

Breeds has thus far been seen in recurring roles on The Originals and Pretty Little Liars. Her credits also include CBSThe Code and We Are Men as well as long-running soap Home & Away in her native Australia.
