Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington to star in Little Fires Everywhere TV series

Reese Witherspoon in Rendition

Story by Jack Foley

REESE Witherspoon and Kerry Washington are set to star in and executive produce a star-studded adaptation of Celeste Ng’s best-seller Little Fires Everywhere.

The book, which was released last year, follows the events that unfold after the controversial adoption of a Chinese-American baby divides the community of wealthy Shaker Heights, Ohio. The story pays particular attention to a landlord and her mysterious tenant, single mother Mia.

Liz Tigelaar (Casual, Life Unexpected) will pen the script, as well as serving as another of the show’s executive producers and showrunner.

The book was a September pick of Witherspoon’s book club and an instant best-seller, appearing on many year-end best-of lists for 2017. Witherspoon’s company subsequently snatched up the rights to the book shortly afterwards.

Little Fires Everywhere marks the latest foray into TV for Witherspoon, off the back of the success of HBO’s Emmy-winning Big Little Lies – the sophomore season of which is due in 2019.

She is also set to star opposite Jennifer Aniston and executive produce an untitled morning show drama that landed at Apple with a two-season order.

For Washington, meanwhile, Little Fires will be her follow-up role to that of Olivia Pope in ABC’s Shonda Rhimes-produced Scandal. The drama will wrap its seven-season run on April 19.
