RENEE Zellweger is to star in Netflix’s straight-to-series anthology What/If.

The drama, which boasts 10 episodes, is being described as a social thriller that explores the ripple effects of what happens when acceptable people start doing unacceptable things.

Each season in the proposed anthology will tackle a different morality tale inspired by culturally consequential source material. It will show how the power of a single fateful decision can change the trajectory of an entire life.

Mike Kelley, who created ABC’s Revenge and CBSSwingtown, came up with the idea for the series and will serve as both show-runner and series writer.

Thus far, little is known about the exact plot details of the first series, although Zellweger is to play a character named Anne. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series could focus on a pair of newlyweds.

What/If marks Zellweger’s first-ever TV series regular role. Prior to this, her largest TV commitment had been the lead in 1992’s USA Network telepic A Taste for Killing, which also marked her acting debut.

Since then, the actress has won an Oscar, Golden Globe and SAG Award for her supporting turn in Cold Mountain as well as landing lead actress Academy Award nominations for Bridget Jones’s Diary and Chicago.

Back on the big screen, Zellweger will next be seen playing Judy Garland in 2019’s Judy.

Back To The Future‘s Robert Zemeckis is among the producers of What/If.
