RICHARD E Grant and Anna Chancellor will join the cast of Downton Abbey for its fifth series, ITV has confirmed.
Both actors will play guests of the Grantham family, with Grant playing a character named Simon Bricker and Chancellor playing Lady Anstruther.
They will be joined by 24 star Rade Sherbedgia, who will play a Russian refugee who has fled the revolution after World War One.
Also returning to the show are Dame Harriet Walter, who will reprise her role as Lady Shackleton, and Peter Egan as Lord Flintshire.
The fifth season of Downton Abbey, which follows the Grantham family and their servants, will return to ITV later this year as part of the channel’s autumn line-up.
Series four of the period drama averaged 11.8 million viewers in the UK, while the Christmas Day special, which featured Paul Giamatti, was watched by 6.6 million on the day and 9.4 million overall once catch-up services were taken into account.
Of the three newcomers, Grant is currently appearing in the new series of hit US show Girls, while Chancellor can currently be seen on British screens in Sky Atlantic’s new drama Fleming.
