Ringer and The Secret Circle axed

Sarah Michelle Gellar in Ringer

Story by Jack Foley

SARAH Michelle Gellar comeback vehicle Ringer has been axed in the US after just one season.

The CW network announced the decision on Friday, May 11 (2012), along with the termination of another freshman series, The Secret Circle.

Ringer’s fate was less of a surprise than The Secret Circle‘s given that the drama had been steadily losing viewers since it’s high profile premiere.

The series only averaged 1.8 million in the US.

Ironically, The Secret Circle – a Vampire Diaries spin-off of sorts – attracted 2 million viewers but also got axed ahead of the lesser performing Nikita, which got renewed for a third season.

Both Ringer and The Secret Circle are shown in the UK on Sky Living.
