Rosamund Pike and David Graham for Thunderbirds reboot
Story by Jack Foley
ROSAMUND Pike is to play Lady Penelope in a new TV reboot of Thunderbirds alongside original Parker, actor David Graham.
Thunderbirds Are Go! will air on ITV in 2015 and will be a mix of CGI animation and live-action miniature sets.
Based on the original 1960s series created by Gerry Anderson and his second wife, Sylvia, and which also featured Gordon, John, Alan and Scott Tracy and Brains, the new series will also introduce a number of new characters not in the original series.
Other voice cast members include Kayvan Novak as inventor Brains, Thomas Brodie-Sangster as Tracy brothers Gordon and John, Rasmus Hardiker as the youngest and oldest Tracy brothers Alan and Scott and David Menkin as fifth Tracy brother, Virgil.
Tracy Island matriarch Grandma Tracy is voiced by Sandra Dickinson and the villainous The Hood is played by Andres Williams.
Graham is the only original cast member to return in Thunderbirds Are Go! and his presence will give the show a welcome feel of familiarity. His signature catchphrase “Yes M’Lady” has gone down in TV history.
Commenting on the show’s revival and his own involvement, the actor said: ““I am triple chuffed to be on board the new series of Thunderbirds Are Go! and reprising my role of dear old Parker with such a distinguished cast. My driving skills are in good nick and I am delighted to be behind the wheel again with M’Lady.”
Pike, who starred in 2002’s Bond movie Die Another Day as well as recent sci-fi comedy film The World’s End and Jack Reacher alongside Tom Cruise, said she was “very excited to bring Lady Penelope’s wry wit and taste for adventure” to a new generation.
“Exploring the scenes with David Graham has been an absolute delight,” she continued. “The scripts are very modern, very fresh and very funny. We’re all eagerly anticipating our next stint in the recording studio!”
