RYAN Reynolds is to unite with Michael Bay for new action film Six Underground for Netflix.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, production on the thriller is due to begin this summer with an eye for a 2019 release on Netflix.

The deal marks a major coup for the streaming giant and marks its biggest movie push since Bright, the cop action-fantasy film starring Will Smith.

Until now, the streamer has focused on more mid-level and low-budget productions and acquisitions.

Bay, on the other hand, is the filmmaker behind the Transformers franchise, while Reynolds is coming off the massive opening of Deadpool 2.

Although plot details remain vague, the story is said to centre around six billionaires who fake their own deaths and form an elite team to take down bad guys. As yet, there is no further word on casting.

But the project will see Reynolds reuniting with his Deadpool and Deadpool 2 writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, who penned the script.
