Sky Atlantic confirms Boardwalk Empire season 3 premiere date
Story by Jack Foley
SKY Atlantic has confirmed the UK premiere for season three of Boardwalk Empire.
The award-winning Prohibition-era drama will make its welcome return on September 29 at 9pm, a couple of weeks later than the US launch, which is scheduled to be aired by HBO on September 16.
Season three will pick up 12 months after the closing events of the second season, in 1923, as Al Capone (played by Stephen Graham) begins his rise to power.
It will also see Margaret (Kelly Macdonald) coming into her own and poses a new enemy for Steve Buscemi’s Nucky Thompson in the form of Gyp Rosetti (Bobby Cannavale).
Series creator Terence Winter has warned to expect even more violence than in the previous two seasons, while hinting that he would like to see the drama run for a total of six seasons, if viewer loyalty allows.
He recently said: “God willing we could run six years – that would be wonderful for me. But I take it one season at a time. It would be terrific.”
