Stephen Graham and Sean Bean for Jimmy McGovern's Accused

Boardwalk Empire

Story by Jack Foley

STEPHEN Graham (pictured), Sean Bean and Anna Maxwell Martin have been confirmed to star in the second series of Jimmy McGovern’s Accused.

They will follow in the footsteps of Christopher Eccleston, who won one of two international Emmys the series received following its first season on BBC One drama last year.

Shooting is due to commence later this year and it has also been revealed that Bean will play an English teacher who has a cross-dressing alter ego named Tracie, who leads him into a “terrible crime of passion”.

Graham (of This Is England and Boardwalk Empire fame) is cast as Tony, a satellite and aerial engineer with Rachel Leskovac (Coronation Street) as his beautician wife Karen.

Their episode has been co-written by Shaun Duggan (EastEnders) and McGovern, and is directed by Ashley Pearce (of Downton Abbey fame).

Anna Maxwell Martin’s episode will see her playing a character named Tina Dakin, a married mother of three who is over-stretched as a mum and at work as a prison officer.

Robert Sheehan and John Bishop also star alongside her.

Further episodes of Accused have already been shot and feature Anne-Marie Duff, Olivia Colman and Sheridan Smith.
