Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks producing new WWII mini-series
Story by Jack Foley
STEVEN Spielberg and Tom Hanks are developing a third Second World War-based mini-series.
Reportedly based on Donald Miller’s non-fiction book Masters of the Air: America’s Bomber Boys Who Fought the Air War Against Nazi Germany, the series will explore the aerial wars through the eyes of the enlisted men of the Eighth Air Force, otherwise known as the men of the Mighty Eighth.
Gary Goetzman will also serve as executive producer along with Spielberg and Hanks, while Justified creator Graham Yost is being lined up to pen the scripts.
As yet, the project has no official name, cast or director attached but will be produced via Hanks and Goetzman’s Playtone and Spielberg’s Amblin Television for HBO.
Spielberg and Hanks have previously worked together on 2001’s Band of Brothers and 2010’s The Pacific.
Band of Brothers was nominated for 19 Emmys and won six, including outstanding mini-series. It also won Golden Globes.
The Pacific took home eight Emmys in 2010, more than any other programme.
