The Good Doctor and A Million Little Things renewed for third and second seasons

The Good Doctor

Story by Jack Foley

ABC has renewed medical drama The Good Doctor and friendship drama A Million Little Things for a third and second season respectively.

The two shows are the first renewals for ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke, who took over the post in November after the departure of Channing Dungey.

They therefore join Agents of SHIELD, which got an early seventh-season renewal as one of Dungey’s final decisions with the network.

The Good Doctor, starring Freddie Highmore as an autistic doctor, was a breakout for ABC in its debut season in 2017-18. But while ratings have dropped off this season, it remains the network’s second most watched drama behind fellow medical show Grey’s Anatomy among adults 18-49.

In the UK, it airs on Sky Witness.

A Million Little Things is also a high performer in terms of viewing figures. The show follows a group of friends from Boston who bonded under unexpected circumstances.

Some have achieved success, others are struggling in their careers and relationships, but all of them feel stuck in life. After one of them dies unexpectedly, it’s just the wake-up call the others need to finally start living.
