The Muppets return for mockumentary TV series

The Muppets

THE Muppets are to make a small screen comeback in a new mockumentary-style TV series.

The news follows their big screen success in 2011’s The Muppets and 2014’s follow-up Muppets Most Wanted.

The Big Bang Theory‘s producer Bill Prady is behind the series, which promises a more adult take on the beloved characters.

The show will therefore adopt a “contemporary, documentary-style” and will explore their personal lives, relationships and even disappointments.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the pilot episode received a standing ovation at an ABC screening last month.

The Muppets, created by puppeteer Jim Henson, first appeared on television in the 1950s, getting their own show in the 1970s.

The comeback series is one of several new comedies picked up by ABC after the US pilot season, including Dr Ken with The Hangover‘s Ken Jeong and The Real O’Neals, a contemporary take on a seemingly perfect Catholic family.
