The Village: The Complete Series 2 - Preview

The Village: Series 2

Preview by Jack Foley

THE critically acclaimed TV drama The Village is back for a highly anticipated second series set in the roaring twenties. Series one was nominated for three Television BAFTAs and is one not to be missed as the story of one Peak District village moves into the jazz age.

The Village is seen through the prism of Bert Middleton’s eyes – the young man who never leaves the village but sees the world transform around him. Catch the epic story that charts the life and turbulent times of one English village through the 20th Century as The Village: The Complete Series 2 comes to DVD on March 9, 2015, courtesy of Entertainment One.

From creator and writer Peter Moffat (Silk, Criminal Justice), series 2 features a returning stellar cast alongside the addition of much-loved British talent including: John Simm (Life On Mars, Doctor Who) as John Middleton, a Peak District alcoholic farmer; Maxine Peake (Silk, Shameless) as John’s wife, Grace Middleton; Julian Sands (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, The Killing Fields) as political sponsor, Lord Kilmartin; Juliet Stevenson (White Heat, Truly Madly Deeply) as Clem Allingham of the Allingham estate; Nico Mirallegro (Upstairs Downstairs, My Mad Fat Diary) as the eldest Middleton son, Joe Middleton; Juliet Aubrey (The White Queen, The Constant Gardener) as family planning teacher, Joy Dangerfield; Ben Batt (Shameless, Scott & Bailey) as teenage bully, Alf Rutter; and making their acting debuts Bill Jones, Tom Varey, Alfie Stewart (Sadie J, Not Fade Away) and David Ryall (Trollied, Outnumbered) all star as central character, Bert Middleton.

It’s 1923. The Great War is over but what kind of England has won? Now in a world of boom and bust, motor cars and the Charleston, the twenties bring a blast of energy and freedom to the village; dance halls and jazz music are having their influence on the villager’s lives.

As an election year divides and inspires, we will find the power of the woman’s vote has been sorely undervalued. That is until now, as the outside world continues to break down barriers, bringing with it big dramas and change.
