The Walking Dead - Showdown promised between Rick & The Governor

The Walking Dead

Story by Jack Foley

A SHOWDOWN has been promised between The Walking Dead‘s hero Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and new main villain The Governor (David Morrissey).

The pledge was made by departing showrunner Glen Mazzara in an interview with Entertainment Weekly ahead of the show’s return from mid-season hiatus later this month.

In doing so, he also teased the arrival of new characters, some of whom are comic book favourites.

Speaking about the showdown, however, Mazzara said: “One of the things I’m excited about is we’re on the path for this showdown, and the Governor and Rick have still not seen each other as we went through those first eight episodes.

“And the Governor is certainly a big threat to Rick and can destroy his entire group, and the Governor sees Rick as a threat that can destroy all of his plans by showing that he was not the most powerful force in this world… so both guys now have a vendetta against each other.”

He also hinted that the confrontation could result in the death of more series regulars.

“There will always be death in The Walking Dead, so I don’t think anybody should get comfortable – the Governor and Rick are gearing up for war and without sounding silly, there will be blood.”

Commenting on new characters, Mazzara also said that the back eight episodes of season three would involve more of comic book favourite Tyreese (Chad Coleman), who was introduced in the final episode of the first half of the season.

And he added: “We do have a lot of new surprising material. There’s still a major character [from the comics] to appear in the back half, which is very exciting.”
