CLASSIC HBO series The Wire is heading to Sky Atlantic in January 2012 along with new episodes of Weeds and comedy Funny or Die.

The Wire, starring Dominic West, Idris Elba, Lance Reddick and Michael K Williams, is seen as a furthering of Sky Atlantic’s commitment to featuring television of outstanding quality.

It regularly features in TV critics’ lists of the greatest TV shows of all time.

The Baltimore-based crime drama will air from the beginning from Friday, January 6 at 10.15pm.

Also kicking off in January will be the sixth season of dark drugs comedy drama Weeds, which begins on Monday, January 2 at 10.15pm.

The show follows the fortunes of Nancy Botwin (Mary-Louise Parker) and her illegal activities with marijuana.

It will be followed immediately by the second series of Will Ferrell, Chris Henchy and Adam McKay’s website spinoff series Funny or Die, which will features cameos from Ferrell himself, Kristen Wiig, Elijah Wood, Jack McBrayer, Ben Stiller and John C Reilly.
