TOM Selleck is in final negotiations to play the lead role in a new family cop drama pilot for CBS.

The as-yet untitled project, which was formerly known as Reagan’s Law, is described as a multi-generational drama revolving around a family of New York cops, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Selleck would play Michael, the handsome and highly commended chief of police for the NYPD who lives in Brooklyn with his father, Patrick (played by Len Cariou).

Donnie Wahlberg has also signed on to play Michael’s son, Brian, who is also a detective.

For TV veteran Selleck, the role would mark the actor’s first regular series lead since his stint on Las Vegas during its final season.
