Story by Jack Foley

AWARD-winning actress Toni Collette has landed the lead role in a new Homeland-style conspiracy drama called Hostages.

According to trade publication Variety, the former star of The Sixth Sense will play a doctor whose family is taken hostage after she is chosen to operate on the US President. The show is based on an Israeli format that was never produced.

Jeffrey Nachmanoff, who has written scripts for the award-winning series Homeland, has penned the CBS drama, while Jerry Bruckheimer.

For Collette, the show marks her latest foray into television following her Golden Globe and Emmy-winning success in comedy-drama United States of Tara.

On the big screen, she will shortly be seen starring alongside Sir Anthony Hopkins in Hitchcock.
