CRITICALLY-acclaimed gangland drama Top Boy will return for a second season on Netflix.

The streamer revived the cult show, which had previously aired for just two seasons on Channel 4 between 2011 and 2013, after fan Drake had snapped up the rights in partnership with LeBron James.

Netflix also confirmed that the show’s main characters, Dushane and Sully, played by Ashley Walters and Kane Robinson, were set to return, alongside revival newcomers Jamie (Michael Ward) and Shelley (Simbi Ajikawo). Show creator Ronan Bennett is also returning.

Set in a crime-ridden London housing estate called Summerhouse, Top Boy follows the story of rival gangs and their leaders as they attempt to assert control over the area’s lucrative drug trade.

Ward, who played the titular character on the show, enjoyed breakout success following the airing of the revival last year. The British actor later appeared in the critically-acclaimed movie Blue Story, which helped him to win the audience-backed BAFTA Rising Star Award at last month’s BAFTAs.

He also has Steve McQueen’s BBC/Amazon anthology series Small Axe coming soon.
