A SEX scene from an upcoming episode of Torchwood: Miracle Day will be cut from UK TV screens, the BBC has confirmed.

News of the censorship was first exposed by The Sun newspaper, which revealed that the scene involved Captain Jack (John Barrowman) sleeping with a barman.

It quoted a source from the show describing the scene in question as “explicit”, adding that while it would not be shown on the BBC it will appear on US cable network Starz as it is not subject to the same rules.

Confirming the reports, a BBC spokesperson told Digital Spy that the scene in question will not be shown in the UK and added that a violent scene had also been cut from a later episode in the series.

The spokesman said: “The UK and US versions of Torchwood are slightly different. However, these differences do not change the story in any way and the strong storylines are first and foremost to the series.”

News of the sex scene was first leaked when Barrowman stated in a previous interview that Jack has “full-on boy sex” in the show.

Torchwood: Miracle Day airs on Thursdays at 9pm on BBC 1.
