True Detective to gain new location and leads for second season
Story by Jack Foley
THE second season of True Detective will feature three new leads as well as a new location, according to creator Nic Pizzolatto.
In an interview with radio programme To the Best of Our Knowledge, the series chief revealed: “The characters are all new, but I’m deeply in love with each of them. We’ve got the entire series broken out with a couple scripts, and we’ll probably start casting in earnest within the coming month.”
He went on to say that the show would be moving west from the Louisiana bayou that featured in season one.
“It takes place in California – not Los Angeles, but one of the much lesser known venues of California,” he continued. “And we’re going to try to capture a certain psychosphere ambiance of the place much like we did in season one.”
Although not written in stone, original series leads Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson are not expected to feature in the sophomore run. But that was something that Pizzolatto always anticipated and was a concession of attracting such high profile names to the debut run.
“With two guys like that, I guess the concession would be, we’re not going to use them again,” he added. “People who do have active cinematic careers aren’t going to want to come back for six years or five years.”
