Victoria Smurfit joins Jonathan Rhys Meyers' Dracula series
Story by Jack Foley
VICTORIA Smurfit has joined the cast of new Jonathan Rhys Meyers series Dracula.
The Irish actress will play Lady Jayne in NBC’s 10-episode series, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The series, which was picked up without the need for going through the pilot stage, is set during the 1890s and follows Dracula (Rhys Meyers) as he leads a double life in London.
In polite social circles, he is seen as an American businessman who is interested in bringing modern science to Victorian society. But his true plan is to exact revenge on those who burdened him centuries ago.
Complications arise, however, when he falls in love with Mina (Arrow‘s Jessica DeGouw), who seems to be a reincarnation of his dead wife.
Smurfit’s Lady Jayne will be seen as a fashion-forward, beautiful woman who is instantly attracted to Dracula. She subsequently pursues him.
Her screen credits include roles in About a Boy, The Beach and Irish drama The Clinic.
Dracula‘s other cast members include Merlin‘s Katie McGrath and Game of Thrones‘ Nonso Anozie, who play Mina’s best friend Lucy Westenra and Allan Grayson’s (aka Dracula) loyal confidante.
NBC is looking to screen Dracula in the autumn. As yet, no UK channel has picked it up.
