Whitechapel axed by ITV according to Rupert Penry-Jones' Tweet

Story by Jack Foley

CRIME series Whitechapel has been axed by ITV, according to one of its leading men, Rupert Penry-Jones.

The actor, who plays DI Joseph Chandler in the detective drama, revealed the news via Twitter on Saturday, November 16, 2013.

His first Tweet read: “Sorry to be the bearer of bad news everyone but ITV don’t want any more Whitechapel. That’s all folks x”

It was followed by: “No not joking I am afraid. Silk coming soon though ;) and I am off somewhere amazing for something new. Stay tuned x”

Whitechapel, which also starred Phil Davis and Steve Pemberton, debuted in 2009 and has since clocked up four seasons. But owing to falling ratings, ITV has apparently taken the decision to cancel the show following its final episode in October this year.
