Will Poulter lands leading role in Amazon's Lord of the Rings series

Story by Jack Foley

WILL Poulter has landed one of the leading roles in Amazon’s Lord of the Rings series.

It is not yet clear what role the British actor will play but he will join Australian actress Markella Kavenagh, who was the first person to be cast in the project.

As yet, Amazon have declined to comment. But the news was broken by The Hollywood Reporter.

Amazon acquired rights to Lord Of The Rings in a $250 million deal that includes a multi-season commitment for the series.

The showrunners will be JD Payne and Patrick McKay (Star Trek 4), who are also adapting the story, which is set in Middle-Earth’s Second Age, before the events of Tolkien’s primary trilogy — The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the King.

JA Bayona (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, The Orphanage) is set to direct the first two episodes and will executive produce. Production is scheduled to begin in 2020.

Having broken through in acclaimed British indie hit Son of Rambow, Poulter’s other hits include Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, Kathryn Bigelow’s Detroit, Oscar-winner The Revenant alongside Leondardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy and this year’s horror hit Midsommar.
