1984 transfers to the Almeida
ROBERT Icke and Duncan Macmillan’s critically acclaimed adaptation of George Orwell’s dystopian masterpiece will transfer to the Almeida Theatre, where it will run from February 13 (previews from February 8) to March 29, 2014.
Booking for this Almeida Theatre, Headlong and Nottingham Playhouse co-production opens for Members on October 29. Public booking opens on November 5, 2013.
The entire cast – Mark Arends (as Winston), Tim Dutton (O’Brien), Stephen Fewell (Charrington), Christopher Patrick Nolan (Martin), Matthew Spencer (Syme), Gavin Spokes (Parsons), Mandi Symonds (Mrs Parsons) and Hara Yannas (Julia) – will remain with the production for the Almeida Theatre run.
Written and directed by Robert Icke and Duncan Macmillan, 1984 is designed by Chloe Lamford, with lighting by Natasha Chivers, sound by Tom Gibbons and video design by Tim Reid.
Robert Icke has recently joined new Artistic Director, Rupert Goold, at the Almeida where he will be Associate Director. Icke was previously Associate Director at Headlong where he worked with Goold to conceive and develop Decade, directed Boys by Ella Hickson and a UK tour of Romeo and Juliet. Elsewhere his theatre credits include The Alchemist (Liverpool Playhouse) and Catalysta (Ovalhouse Theatre).
1984 will conclude an extraordinary trilogy of co-productions between the Almeida and Headlong that began with Chimerica, which opened at the Almeida in May of this year and recently played a sell-out run in the West End. The companies are currently co-producing American Psycho, directed by Rupert Goold, which begins at the Almeida on December 3, 2013.
