IN ORDER to meet demand, Anthony Weigh’s 2,000 Feet Away starring Joseph Fiennes has extended its booking period at the Bush Theatre by one week – until July 19, 2008.
Previously Posted: Joseph Fiennes returns to the London stage – to the Bush Theatre – to star as the Deputy Sheriff in the European premiere of Anthony Weigh’s 2,000 Feet Away, which runs from June 16 (previews from June 11) to July 12, 2008.
In Eldon, Iowa, a tiny community in the heartland of America, the Deputy Sheriff is charged with enforcing the new state law banning sex offenders from living within 2,000 feet of schools, parks, bus stops, public libraries, or anywhere else children may gather.
When The Deputy is compelled to evict his neighbours’ son AG, the new law hits home. Over the course of a single weekend, fear and intolerance swell and the two men are thrown together to discover that there is nowhere in the vast landscape for Iowa’s outcasts to go.
Josie Rourke directs a cast that also includes Ian Hart as paedophile AG and Phyllis Logan as AG’s mother.
Fiennes’ theatre credits include Love’s Labour’s Lost, Real Classy Affair, Edward II, The Woman in Black, A View from the Bridge, As You Like It, The Herbal Bed, A Month in the Country and, most recently, the 2005 West End revival of John Osborne’s Epitaph for George Dillon (Comedy Theatre). On screen, he has appeared in Stealing Beauty, Shakespeare in Love, Elizabeth, Enemy at the Gate and The Merchant of Venice.
Hart last appeared on stage in the 2001 West End revival of Pinter’s The Homecoming. His screen credits include Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, The End of the Affair, Finding Neverland and the American drama series Dirt.
Logan is probably best known for her part in the 1996 Mike Leigh film Secrets and Lies and for her regular role as Lady Jane Felsham in the television series Lovejoy alongside Ian McShane.
2,000 Feet Away is designed by Lucy Osborne, with lighting by James Farncombe.
