A Doll's House - Greenwich Playhouse
Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle
CandyKing Theatre is presenting Ida Forde’s new translation of Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll’s House at Greenwich Playhouse – from August 18 to September 13, 2009.
A drama about money, fraud, blackmail and love, A Doll’s House tells the story of Nora, a wife who is prized by her husband Torvald for her good looks and childish devotion to him.
In order to pay for a trip to help Torvald’s ailing health, Nora secretly commits fraud. However, her crime is discovered by the desperate Krogstad, who callously blackmails her. And when Torvald learns of Nora’s secret, his reaction changes both their lives forever.
Maria Chiorando directs.
A Doll’s House was revolutionary in that it was one of the first dramas of the 19th century to expose the dirty little secrets of middle class life.
CandyKing Theatre was last seen at Greenwich Playhouse with its revival of John Osbourne’s Look Back in Anger.
Tickets: £12, £10 concessions.
