A Winter's Tale - Landor Theatre

Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle

ARION Productions Ltd is presenting the professional world premiere of A Winter’s Tale, a new British musical, at the Landor Theatre, where it runs from Wednesday, November 7 to Saturday, December 1, 2012.

Directed and developed by Andrew Keates (director of the multi award-winning and critically acclaimed production of The Hired Man as well as Passing By, The Thing About Men, Bent, Just So), A Winter’s Tale has a book by Nick Stimson (NHS The Musical, Who Ate All The Pies, Korczak) and music and lyrics by Howard Goodall (Love Story, Girlfriends, The Hired Man).

Although not a direct adaptation of one of Shakespeare’s last and most experimental plays, A Winter’s Tale is inspired by The Winter’s Tale and explores two very different lands that one day must conquer their differences through the universal themes of love, understanding and truth.

According to the press release, anyone who has ever been jealous, fallen in love or simply wanted to undo a mistake will understand this chilly tale which, for the first time, will be told simply through musical theatre for a modern audience.

A Winter’s Tale has musical supervision by George Dyer (Merrily We Roll Along, Annie, Ragtime), musical staging by Cressida Carré (The Hired Man, Burlesque, Spring Awakening), designs by Martin Thomas (Curtains, Ragtime, Guys and Dolls), lighting by multi award-winning Howard Hudson (Mack & Mabel, Parade, The Hired Man), sound by Sarah Weltman (The Hired Man, The Damnation of Faust, Idemoneo), and costume design by Philippa Batt (Passing By, Soho Cinders).
