Adrian Pagan Playwright Award - winner announced

Theatre news

THE King’s Head Theatre has announced the winner of the inaugral Adrian Pagan Playwright Award as Thomas Pickles, for his play Dead Party Animals.

The award, which was set up for theatre professionals who do not describe themselves as playwrights to showcase their writing talent, was judged by David Lan, Mark Ravenhill, Mike Bradwell, Nina Steiger and Julia Tyrell.

Thomas Pickles is an actor from East Lancashire. He will receive a £2,000 prize, kindly donated by Adrian Pagan’s mother, Mary Pagan, and a full production of Dead Party Animals will be produced at The Hope Theatre (the King’s Head Theatre’s New Writing venue) in May 2014.

Will you be with me forever? I’ve thought about forever and it doesn’t seem that long.

Dead Party Animals is described as a wildly poetic, atmospheric and vivid story of polo tops, lip gloss, free shots and slutdrops.

The short list for the Award was made up of five plays. As well as Dead Party Animals, they were: The Visitor by Remi Rachuba, Dissolution by Isobel Middleton, Kitchen Sinking by Gina Gough and My Darling Wife by Isaac Ssebandeke.
