Alexander Patmore, Joel Benedict and Paula Tappenden to join Blood Brothers Spring Tour

BILL Kenwright’s production of the international smash hit musical Blood Brothers continues its 2019 Spring tour welcoming three new cast members Alexander Patmore, Joel Benedict and Paula Tappenden into the roles of Mickey, Eddie and Mrs Lyons respectively.

They will join actress Linzi Hateley who leads the cast in the seminal role of Mrs Johnstone at Bournemouth Pavilion on February 26, 2019.

Written by award-winning playwright Willy Russell, Blood Brothers has triumphed across the globe, scooping up no fewer than four awards for best musical in London and seven Tony Award nominations on Broadway.

Blood Brothers tells the captivating and moving story of twin boys separated at birth, only to be reunited by a twist of fate and a mother’s haunting secret. The memorable score includes A Bright New Day, Marilyn Monroe and the emotionally charged hit Tell Me It’s Not True.

Alexander Patmore makes his debut as Mickey Johnstone. His theatre credits include playing the role of Bobby Willis in Cilla The Musical (UK Tour); Prince Charming in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (Epstein Theatre, Liverpool); Lysander in A Midsummer Night’s Dream – The Musical (Italian Tour); Man in the Mirror and Ensemble in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs for UK Productions (Grand Theatre, Blackpool); and John Trent and Carl Pilger in Presterton Hall – The Musical directed by Christian Durham and Andrew Saunders (Unity Theatre, Liverpool).

Joel Benedict returns to the role of Eddie Lyons, which he previously played in Bill Kenwright’s Blood Brothers UK Tour 2016-17. His other theatre credits include Spamalot (UK tour) and Paper Hearts (Upstairs at The Gatehouse/Edinburgh Fringe ’16). Benedict is also a professional guitar, mandolin and ukelele player and is often seen either onstage as an actor musician or in the band. He has played lead guitar for many productions for the RCS (Royal Conservatoire of Scotland) including: Tommy, Avenue Q and The Addams Family.

Paula Tappenden re-joins the cast of Blood Brothers having had a long association with the show, first playing Mrs Lyons at the Phoenix Theatre in the West End and returning to the role many times over the years. Her other theatre roles include Lady Constance, Harriet and Alice in The March (2018 UK Tour), Mrs Mouse in The Wind in the Willows (UK Tour/QE2), Glinda in The Wizard of Oz (QE2), Dorigen and Guinevere in The Canterbury Tales (Arts Theatre/Mermaid Theatre, London) and Queen Elizabeth I in Johnny Ball’s Let the Force be with You (National Tour).

Comedy sketch shows in London include Sports Revue, As Time Goes By, After Eight Stint and Continental Brechtfast; while TV credits include Tom Jones and Crimewatch plus numerous commercials/voice-overs and corporate films in the UK and abroad.

Directed by Bob Tomson and Bill Kenwright, Blood Brothers is designed by Andy Walmsley, with musical direction by Tim Whiting, sound design by Dan Samson and lighting design by Nick Richings.

Following the Bournmouth dates (February 26 to March 2), Blood Brothers will tour to Billingham, Killarney, Castlebar, Torquay, Salford, Llandudno, Blackpool, Southsea and Leeds.
