As You Like It - Southwark Playhouse
Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle
TO MARK Shakespeare’s 450th birthday, Peter Huntley Productions and W14 Productions are presenting As You Like It at Southwark Playhouse (The Large) – from September 18 to October 18, 2014.
Rosalind, daughter of a duke banished by his own brother, is forced into exile by her despotic uncle. With only her spectacular wit and her loyal cousin Celia and servant Touchstone to support her, she is forced to disguise herself as a man and enter the Forest of Arden searching for her father.
When the love of her life, Orlando, also on the run in the forest, doesn’t recognise her, Rosalind decides to teach him the truth about love.
Derek Bond directs a cast led by Sally Scott (Sense and Sensibility, Boeing Boeing) as Rosalind, Harry Livingstone (The Glass Menagerie) as Orlando and Simon Lipkin (Rock of Ages, I Can’t Sing!) as Touchstone.
They are joined by Kaisa Hammarlund (A Little Night Music) as Celia, Joanna Hickman as Phebe, Samuel Townsend as Silvius, Richard Albrecht, Steven Crossley, Dominic Gerrard and Minal Patel.
As You Like It has set and costume design by Emma Bailey, a score by Jude Obermüller and lighting by Sally Ferguson.
The European premiere of the musical Dogfight continues in The Large until September 13, 2014. Also at Southwark Playhouse: the fifth installment of Theatre Renegade’s Courting Drama series in its new venue (September 14, 2014).
