IT HAS now been confirmed that the offbeat musical Avenue Q will tour the UK following its closure at Wyndham’s Theatre.

After a well-earned rest, Trekkie Monster and Co will bring the show to the Theatre Royal Bath, where it opens in February 2011 – tickets on sale from October 4 on 01225 448844 or at www.theatreroyal.org.uk.

Further venues have yet to be confirmed.

Previously Posted: After four and a half years, in three different West End venues, the offbeat musical Avenue Q has posted closing notices. Currently playing at Wyndham’s Theatre, the last performance will be on Saturday, October 30, 2010.

As Kate Monster explains: “We’ve had a great time, it’s been a real ball but I think we’ve all grown up and got our sights set on living in a more up-market part of town. And Trekkie Monster wants to be somewhere with a better broadband connection”.

Described as “Sesame Street meets South Park”, Avenue Q is about Princeton, a bright-eyed college graduate who arrives in New York with big dreams and a tiny bank account. But it isn’t long before he discovers that there is only one neighbourhood suited to his limited finances – Avenue Q.

The production ingeniously combines a cast of humans and puppets who tackle subjects such as dating, racism, internet porn, being gay and finding your purpose in life.

Avenue Q received its West End premiere at the Noel Coward Theatre in June 2006. Three years later, in June 2009, it moved to the Gielgud Theatre and in March 2010, it opened at its final home, Wyndham’s Theatre.

The current cast includes includes Paul Spicer and Cassidy Janson.
