Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle

THE UK tour of Beautiful Thing, which was scheduled to visit London’s Arts Theatre in June, will end its run earlier than planned at the Leicester Curve on Saturday, May 30, 2015.

Previously Posted: Nikolai Foster’s celebrated anniversary production of Jonathan Harvey’s modern classic, Beautiful Thing, is returning to the Arts Theatre for a limited six week run – from June 3 to July 11, 2015.

Beautiful Thing is billed as a glorious urban love story between two young men, Jamie and Ste, who are coming to terms with their sexuality and the effect it has on the people in their lives.

Combining comedy with drama, Beautiful Thing captures what it is to be a teenager and to fall in love.

Multi award-winning actress Charlie Brooks (best known as ‘Janine Butcher’ in EastEnders) leads the cast as Sandra, with Thomas Law (EastEnders, The World’s End) as Ste, Sam Jackson (Skins, Kes) as Jamie, Gerard McCarthy (Hollyoaks, The Fall) as Tony and Vanessa Babirye (Our Girl) as Leah.

A regular writer on Coronation Street, Jonathan Harvey also wrote hit TV series Gimme, Gimme, Gimme and Beautiful People. His stage work includes Canary, Corrie! and Closer to Heaven. He also wrote the best-selling 2012 novel All She Wants.

Beautiful Thing is designed by Colin Richmond, with lighting by Ben Cracknell and sound by George Dennis.

Beautiful Thing was previously seen at the Arts Theatre in Spring 2013, when it starred Suranne Jones as Sandra.

Beautiful Thing will open in Canterbury on March 23, before touring to Birmingham, Manchester, Nottingham, Guildford, Northampton, Leicester, London, Cardiff and Brighton.

Jeremy Dyson and Andy Nyman’s Ghost Stories continues at the Arts Theatre until March 15, 2015.
