Betwixt! - King's Head Theatre

Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle

IAN McFarlane’s fantasy musical, Betwixt!, receives its world premiere at the King’s Head Theatre where it runs from May 6 to June 22, 2008.

Described as a witty musical romp, Betwixt! is the story of fantasy novelist Bailey Howard and his flamboyant friend Cooper Fitzgerald who are magically transported to the world of the In-Between.

Their arrival fulfills the ancient prophecy that the oppressed land and its kidnapped Prince Haydn will be rescued by a conquering hero and a great queen. So begins an adventure in which they encounter a seductive Nymph Queen, a singing disembodied head and a deranged theatrical troupe.

McFarlane, who wrote the book, musics and lyrics for Betwixt! also takes on the role of Cooper. He has previously appeared at the King’s Head Theatre as Peter Pan‘s John Darling. His other credits include Tony Blair The Musical (2007 Edinburgh Festival).

Bailey is played by Stephen Fletcher whose previous theatre credits include Stags and Hens (Royal Court Liverpool) and Mary Stuart (Donmar Warehouse).

And Abi Finley, a semi finalist in How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria? plays Miranda. Following her appearance in the reality TV show, Finley starred as Fiona in Tim Rice’s Blondel at Islington’s Pleasance Theatre. She subsequently took on the role of Serena Katz in the UK touring production of Fame.

Joining them are David McGranaghan (as Prince Haydn), Amanda Symonds (as the evil sorceress Languidere), Mark Inscoe (as The Great Garbo), Amy Griffiths (as Princess Ariella), Claire Greenway (as April McScoop) and Ross Aldred (as Marasmus).

Betwixt! is directed by Kate Golledge.
