Birdland - full casting announced
FULL casting has been announced for Simon Stephens’ Birdland, a piercing new play looking at empathy, money and fame, which runs at the Royal Court Theatre from April 3 to May 31, 2014.
Joining the previously announced Andrew Scott (as Paul) are Nikki Amuka-Bird, Daniel Cerqueira, Yolanda Kettle, Alex Price and Charlotte Randle.
The last week of a massive international tour and rock star Paul is at the height of his fame. Everybody knows his name. Whatever he wants he can have. He can screw anybody he wants to. He can buy anything he desires. He can eat anything. Drink anything. Smoke anything. Go anywhere.
As the inevitability of the end of the road looms closer, and a return home becomes a reality, for Paul, the music is starting to jar.
Nikki Amuka-Bird’s stage credits include Love and Information (Royal Court Theatre), Welcome to Thebes (National Theatre) and Twelfth Night (Bristol Old Vic). She has also appeared on television in Luther and Silent Witness.
Daniel Cerqueira’s theatre work includes Cleansed (Royal Court Theatre), Feast (Young Vic) and Table (National Theatre).
Yolanda Kettle’s theatre credits include A Doll’s House (West End), Hello/Goodbye (Hampstead Theatre) and The Seagull (Arcola Theatre).
Alex Price has previously appeared on stage in Before the Party (Almeida Theatre), Bingo (Young Vic) and Beautiful Thing (Manchester Royal Exchange).
Charlotte Randle’s stage work includes The Lyons (Menier Chocolate Factory), Public Enemy (Young Vic) and The King’s Speech (Wyndham’s Theatre).
Birdland is directed by Carrie Cracknell, who is an Associate Director at the Royal Court and an Associate Artist at the Young Vic. She was also co-Artistic Director of the Gate Theatre from 2007 to 2012.
Birdland has set design by Ian MacNeil, costumes by Holly Waddington, lighting by Neil Austin and music and sound by Tom Mills.
