Boeing-Boeing - London run ends

Feature by Lizzie Guilfoyle

AFTER 362 ‘flights’ at the West End’s Comedy Theatre, Matthew Warchus’ critically acclaimed production of Boeing-Boeing will close on January 5, 2008, prior to planned Broadway and Australian dates and a regional UK tour.

Bernard, a successful architect living in Paris, thought he could easily cope with his three air hostess fiancées. It was all a question of timetables and his reliable, long-suffering housekeeper Bertha who reluctantly takes on the role of romantic air-traffic controller.

So, when old school chum Robert arrives, Bernard relishes the chance to show his wide-eyed friend his first-class operation at work. Unfortunately, schedules change, flights are delayed and a new turbo-charged Boeing aircraft is introduced. Chaos ensues in what is described as an hysterical whirl of mayhem and matchmaking.

The current cast includes Kevin McNally, Jean Marsh, Neil Stuke, Jennifer Ellison, Tracy-Ann Oberman and Elena Roger.

Boeing-Boeing, translated from Mark Camoletti’s original by Beverley Cross, opened at the Comedy Theatre in February 2007 and has been seen by more than 170,000 people.

The production is designed by Rob Howell, with lighting by Hugh Vanstone, original music by Claire van Kampen and sound by Simon Baker. The curtain call is devised by Strictly Come Dancing‘s Bruno Tonioli.

Boeing-Boeing is produced in the West End by Sonia Friedman Productions, Act Productions, Matthew Byam Shaw , Robert G Bartner and Bob Boyett.
