Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle

BARD at the Bridewell Returns is a series of Shakespeare’s plays specially produced for Lunchbox Theatre, which starts at 1pm and lasts for approximately 45 minutes.

The current production is As You Like It – a compelling romantic adventure of mistaken identities, political rivalry, hidden passions and love – which runs until February 8, 2008.

As You Like It is presented by C Company and directed by Aileen Gonsalves.

Next comes The Tempest – from March 25 to April 11, 2008.

Shipwrecked on a magical island, surrounded by spirits, the Italian kings and princes must face the scheming magician Prospero, wronged Duke of Milan. The Tempest is presented by Baseless Fabric Theatre Company and directed by Joanna Turner.

The third production, The Merchant of Venice, runs from June 3 to June 20, 2008.

C Company present a fresh take on Shakespeare’s controversial play in which a bankrupt young man borrows money in the cause of true love, wins the lady but at what cost to his friend? A debt must be paid. Can Shylock be bought off or will they be forced to call in the lawyers?

Finally – from July 15 to August 1, 2008 – it’s the turn of Romeo and Juliet.

In a world of rival factions, where fear and suspicion rule, the original star-crossed lovers are swept away by forces of love and hate, passion and prejudice. Can love conquer all?

Romeo and Juliet is also presented by C Company and directed by Aileen Gonsalves.
