FOLLOWING a world tour and record-breaking Broadway run, dance show Burn the Floor visits the West End’s Shaftesbury Theatre, where it runs from July 21 to September 4, 2010.

Described as an electrifying Latin and Ballroom dance spectacular, Burn the Floor was conceived as a special performance for Elton John’s 50th birthday celebration. Two years later, in 1999, it received its world premiere in the UK, since when it been seen in more than 30 countries.

From Harlem’s hot nights at The Savoy, where dances such as the Lindy, Foxtrot and Charleston were born, to the Latin Quarter where the Cha-Cha, Rumba and Salsa steamed up the stage, Burn the Floor takes audiences on a journey through the passionate drama of dance.

Audiences can therefore enjoy the elegance of the Viennese Waltz, the exuberance of the Jive, the intensity of the Paso Doble, as well as the Tango, Samba, Mambo, Quickstep and Swing.

The company features 20 dancers from around the world who, between them, ‘hold more than 100 dance titles’. Special guest stars are Strictly Come Dancing‘s Brian Fortuna and Ali Bastian, one of the TV show’s most popular couples.

Burn the Floor is directed and choreographed by Jason Gilkison, a former world champion Latin and Ballroom Dancer, and guest choreographer on the fourth season of So You Think You Can Dance.

Burn the Floor bridges the gap between last month’s closure of Hairspray and the October opening of Flashdance
