Cabaret - Phillips, Thorpe and Rawle join cast
FURTHER casting has been announced for Rufus Norris’ double Olivier Award-winning production of Cabaret, which opens at the Savoy Theatre on October 3, 2012 following a four-week national tour.
Joining previously announced Will Young and Michelle Ryan will be Sian Phillips, Harriet Thorpe and Matt Rawle.
Sian Phillips’ recent theatre credits include Lovesong, Calendar Girls and Juliet and Her Romeo. As well as her BAFTA-winning role in I, Claudius, she has appeared on screen in Goodbye Mr Chips, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy and Dune.
Harriet Thorpe has previously played Fraulein Kost in Norris’ 2006 production of Cabaret. Her other theatre credits include Brighton Rock, Crazy for You, Wicked and Mamma Mia!
Matt Rawle, who began his career playing the title role in the original production of Martin Guerre, has gone on to appear in an enormous range of major musicals including Les Miserables, Miss Saigon, Aspects of Love, Zorro and the acclaimed revival of Evita (as Che). And earlier this year, he was one of the West End Men.
Based on the stories of Christopher Isherwood and the play by John Van Druten, Cabaret is a story of pre-war sexual decadence and eroticism set in 1930s Berlin, where young Sally Bowles is a singer at the Kit Kat Klub…..
Songs include Willkommen, Two Ladies, Sitting Pretty, If You Could See Her and, of course, the title song itself.
