Carousel - casting announced

Gemma Sutton

Casting news

GEMMA Sutton (as Julie Jordan) and Tim Rogers (as Billy Bigelow) will lead the cast of Morphic Graffiti’s bold new interpretation of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Carousel, which runs at the Arcola Theatre from June 23 (previews from June 18) to July 19, 2014.

When mill worker Julie Jordan falls for the masculine charms of Billy Bigelow, a chain of events unravels that suggests their destiny is predetermined by the hand of fate.

Set on the New England coastline, against the backdrop of the Great Depression, this bold reimagining from Morphic Graffiti charts a story of recklessness, regret and redemption, and illuminates the immediacy of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s heart lifting story; the belief in forgiveness and the power of the human spirit.

The timeless score includes the songs If I Loved You, June Is Bustin’ Out All Over and the iconic You’ll Never Walk Alone.

Gemma Sutton most recently appeared in Blues In The Night at Hackney Empire. Her other recent credits include Drunk (Bridewell Theatre), Roxie Hart in Chicago (Leicester Curve), Amber in Hairspray (UK Tour), covering the role of Elle Woods in Legally Blonde (Savoy Theatre), Laurey in Oklahoma! (UK Tour) and Gone With The Wind (New London Theatre).

Tim Rogers

Tim Rogers was last seen on stage in the title role of Morphic Graffiti’s Jekyll and Hyde at the Union Theatre. His other credits include Aspects of Love (UK Tour) and Whistle Down the Wind (Palace Theatre).

The cast also features Amanda Minihan (as Nettie Fowler), Vicki Lee Taylor (Carrie Pipperidge), Joel Montague (Enoch Snow), Valerie Cutko (Mrs Mullin), Richard Kent (Jigger Craigin), Paul Hutton (The Starkeeper), Susanna Porter (Louise) and Michael Carolan (Enoch Snow Jr).

Completing the cast are Joseph Connor, Katrina Dix, Anton Fosh and Charlotte Gale.
